School Council

At Jesson’s, we are very proud of our School Council. They are a group of pupils who act as representatives for their classmates in discussing school issues, with the aim of improving the Jesson’s community for everyone.

In Years 1 – 6, children nominate themselves if they wish to be considered for School Council each year. Everyone votes for a representative from their class and then a further year group vote is conducted to elect 2 representatives from each year group. All pupils learn about democracy and UK elections as part of this process.

School Council are responsible for ensuring their classmates’ voices are heard and for helping to promote positive change around school. They have meetings with teachers, senior leaders and wider stakeholders from the community.

Here are some of the projects we’ve worked on recently:

  • Our first Jesson’s Culture Day
  • Improving school dinners
  • Setting up a prayer space in school
  • Appointing cricket umpires
  • Litter picking
  • Suggesting ideas for Children’s Mental Health Week
  • Considering the school behaviour policy
